Case Study: Few and Far

The brief

Few and Far is a successful design and engineering studio based in Leeds.

It is also two people: Col and Tom (and their two dogs, Polly and Chester), so the brief for this project was to give potential clients a chance to “meet” them and learn a bit more about what how they work and what their values are. In addition to the main piece above, we created a series of short videos on particular topics such as their dogs (of course), motivation, budgets, collaboration and their work with charities.

The shoot

By planning the shoot in the client’s office and setting the main scene on a sofa, with their personal items within the frame, the aim was to quickly set the viewer at ease. When shooting cutaways we focussed on areas and items in their workplace that showed other elements of their personality, through artwork, books and other objects, as well as representing the business by capturing products and awards.

The edit

Correctly sequencing the footage in the edit was key to achieving their goals and delivering a creative and dynamic video that was compelling to their audience, using a tone and pace designed to be modern and “arty” as well as light-hearted and relaxed. By establishing the scene with calming visuals such as slow camera movements and changes in focus, along with the appropriate music selection, the aim was to welcome the viewer into the space. To further introduce the two founders, clips were selected to show them in their office, using diverse shots to ensure they did not become repetitive.

We needed a videographer to produce our company intro video, but what we got was a partner for the project.

Dan just immediately got the concept. Contributing ideas during the creative process that ultimate led to us receiving such a high quality product, Dan was vital to the whole execution of the project.

On the day of the shoot he brought great professionalism and expertise to what would have otherwise been me and my business partner not entirely sure how to get the most out of the experience. He guided us through the process, and continued to offer suggestions make our talking video be the best it could be.

Working with Dan was a pleasure and we hope to work with him again in the future.

The videos

After sharing the video on Instagram, it broke Few and Far’s records for highest engagement, and we followed up with a series of themed short pieces throughout 2020.
